Yes, it is this: "They don't let anything interfere with those precious quiet hours of intense midnight prayer vigil when they are praying hard for the whole world."

That is why they became monks. It's the whole core of what they are about. They protect it above everything.

In TOC terms, I think this is probably the "constraint" of the monks' life -- the core activity that generates the "profit". There are many other things that must happen to enable this core activity -- but it is all subordinated to that core activity.
