Discussion Forum > Two questions

I have two questions about AUTOFOCUS.

1) What if there is an item on my list which I don't need to do today or even this week but that I still want to have on my list of things to do (i.e. I have to call my accountant next week and I have to pay my credit card bill next week). Do these items have any place on the list and if so where? Also, what happens if I get to an item and I realize -- "this can wait until next week"?

2) What about "hard items" on the list. For example, if have to make a phone call at 4 p.m. today, obviously I can't do this item until it's 4 p.m. What if it's 2 p.m. and I'm already done with every other item on the page? Do I move to another page? If so, what happens to my 4 p.m. phone call?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later but any help with these would be most appreciated

Steve,

1) In GTD terms you should not put the "hard landscape of things" in AF. Use a calendar tool of your choice for day-specific tasks to be done. I.e., if you have to call your tax consultant next week, put a reminder in your calendar. Furthermore, if you realise that a task "can wait until next week", but it stands out to you now, why not do it immediately - in Mark's words: use common sense ... ;)

2) Same as in 1): do not use AF for day-/time-specific tasks! The calendar (most probably a digital) will remind you that you have to do your call and hence you should act accordingly, if that's a deadline.

HTH & good luck to you.
