I followed my REVERSE AF tweak all the time, until AF2 was published. In the moment, I am trying AF2.
My further experiences with REV AF:
- I kind of got lost in the end area of my AF lists. That means, I returned more often to the end of the list than "allowed" (not only when I got a page filled, but when I felt like doing so, for excample because I thought something on the last page was urgent in the moment (at least I said so to myself :-/)), with the result that I didn't got back to my "call back sign" for days.
- So, the standard AF procedure (=do at least one thing on the page or dismiss it) was practically out of use for days. Which means, I didn't dismiss anything and my list growed longer and longer.
- After two weeks, I decided just to dismiss a certain number of older pages. Period. Just to get rid of some stuff. I dismissed 8 pages and simply put forward some (5 or 6) tasks that I considered as still worth doing.
- I found myself marking tasks with a !-sign while reading through the whole list when I felt like "Oh, I should really start THIS one ASAP". When working through the list, these tasks stood out more easily, so they became a kind of "jumping points" I concentrated upon in order to work through the pages faster. The downside of this is that over time, more and more tasks get signed until almost every tasks is marked - but I am not sure whether this is really a bad thing. (Later I found a similar technique mentioned as CONDENSED AF tweak.)
When I read the AF2 instruction, my first thought was that I had been moving in this direction already: I had developed the habit to go back to the end often, I had dismissed the oldest task pages, I hadn't dismissed closed pages anymore... So, I switched easily to the new principles.
However, after some time with AF2 I kind of start missing the "gamely feeling" of how AF1 handled a page as a closed list. "Do something about one thing on this list or feel the pain of having to dismiss all of it!" - this rule sometimes got me attacking something unpleasant just because it was LESS unpleasant than the rest!
Anyway. For the moment, I follow AF2, so no more REV AF reports!
